Industrial liasion Office (ILO)

The Industry Liaison Office (ILO) at the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering (SMME), NUST, serves as a dedicated platform to strengthen academia-industry linkages. The office facilitates student internships, industrial visits, collaborative research, and placement opportunities, while also engaging industry partners through seminars, roundtables, and MoUs. Its core objective is to enhance graduate employability and foster meaningful collaborations between SMME and leading organizations.

3rd NUST Industry-Academia Roundtable

The most recent achievement of the office was the successful planning and execution of the 3rd NUST Industry-Academia Roundtable on Advanced Engineering & Technology Solutions, organized in collaboration with the Innovation and Commercialization Office of NUST (ICON). The conference took place on Thursday, 7th Aug 2025, at SMME and was chaired by Principal SMME Dr. Javaid Iqbal and CEO Attock Refinery Limited Mr. Muhammad Adil Khattak. It was attended by seventeen senior officials from the mechanical, aerospace, manufacturing, AI, and healthcare industries, along with the senior faculty from the hosting school. The session focused on addressing sector-specific challenges, identifying potential for collaborative R&D, facilitating faculty placements and student internships, and proposing policy recommendations and commercialization pathways. The session highlights NUST’s and SMME’s commitment to producing market-ready graduates.

NYSEP & NIPIS 2025

the Industry Liaison Office has been overseeing the NIPIS (NUST Internship Program for International Students) and NYSEP (NUST Young Students Engagement Program) at the SMME level. NIPIS is a four-week flagship initiative that brings international undergraduate students to NUST for academic, industrial, and cultural exposure, while NYSEP is a two-week engagement program designed to inspire high school students by introducing them to university life, leadership, and technical learning. Through these programs, the office ensures that interns benefit from SMME’s facilities and learning opportunities, while also leaving with a positive and lasting impression of both SMME and NUST.

Industrial visits

Industrial visits are an integral part of engineering education, offering students valuable hands-on exposure to real-world applications. They serve as a vital link between theoretical learning and practical implementation, deepening students’ understanding of industry operations, technologies, and best practices. Such visits also promote collaboration, innovation, and skill development, better preparing students to meet the challenges of the engineering profession.

At SMME, the Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) holds the key responsibility of organizing these visits. They are planned in a structured manner to ensure that students from all departments and batches gain the opportunity to visit diverse industries across Pakistan.

As in previous years, during the past academic year undergraduate and postgraduate students of SMME visited various industries in the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters. The photographs of these visits are shared below:
