Dr. Farzeen Shahid is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME), NUST. She earned her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China, where her research focused on aerodynamic design and the evolutionary biomechanics of avian flight. She later served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Intelligent Construction Automation Centre, Kyungpook National University, South Korea, where she worked on bioinspired morphing mechanisms, CFD-based design optimization, and renewable energy systems. Her academic career includes teaching experience as a Lecturer and Research Associate at COMSATS University, Pakistan, where she taught core mechanical engineering subjects such as Mechanics of Materials, Machine Design, Statics, and Dynamics. She also contributed to curriculum development and departmental research initiatives. Beyond academia, Dr. Shahid gained substantial industrial experience as a Senior Asset Integrity Engineer at Abyss Solutions, where she led projects on micro-drone certification, corrosion monitoring, digital twin development, and condition assessment of offshore oil and gas infrastructure. Dr. Shahid has published widely in high-impact journals, including Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, Applied Science, and Biomimetics, with contributions spanning bioinspired robotics, flapping-wing aerodynamics, fluid–structure interaction, and renewable energy systems. She has received multiple recognitions, including the IOP Peer Review Excellence Award (2025), Best Oral Presentation at Tsinghua University, and the COMSATS Research Productivity Award. With a unique blend of academic, research, and industrial expertise, she is committed to advancing interdisciplinary research in bioinspired engineering, aerial robotics, and sustainable energy technologies.
